BROCKTON, MA — Less than one week after pleading guilty to assault and kidnapping charges in court, a Brockton man allegedly violated a restraining order, went to the victim's home and set fire to it. According to the police, a warrant has been issued for Laroy Cox, 48, of Brockton, on three counts of Attempted Murder, and one count each of Arson of a Dwelling, Malicious Destruction of Property under $1,200, and Violation of a Restraining Order. Cox pleaded guilty to charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, larceny under $1,200, and witness intimidation in Plymouth Superior Court on May 17. Prior to that, Cox served seven months in the House of Corrections and was sentenced to three years of probation, ordered to stay away from the victim and have to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet. Probation officials say they were able to track Cox to the scene because of the GPS monitoring bracelet, that they say he cut off sometime after the fire and once again tried to get in contact with the victim. Brockton Police and Probation officials sought and have now obtained a warrant for Cox's arrest. The fire is being investigated by Brockton Police, Brockton Fire and Massachusetts State Police.
