BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County officials have issued three alerts Monday around water quality in the area. Sanitary sewer overflows prompted water contact alerts at two locations: Parks Run and lower Beaver Dam Run in CockeysvilleBig Gunpowder River downstream from the Loch Raven Dam The Baltimore County Environmental Health Services issues water contact alerts to let people know they should not drink stream water; they should avoid contact if they have cuts or wounds; and they should minimize hand-to-mouth contact if they are in the water. People should wash their hands thoroughly before eating if in the area. A water quality advisory is also in effect for the freshwater portion of the Patapsco River. Officials say they issue this type of advisory when sewage contamination is not a factor but stormwater may produce contaminated conditions.
