NORWALK, CT — A man who was wanted on a warrant out of California in connection with sexual crimes against a child was arrested in Norwalk over the weekend, according to police. Norwalk police were notified by federal authorities on June 8 regarding a warrant out of Long Beach, California, for Matthew Michael Gass. An officer of the department's special services division, who was assigned to the U.S. Marshal Service Violent Fugitive Task Force out of Bridgeport, was contacted by a Deputy U.S. Marshal, according to a news release posted to Facebook. According to police, the extraditable warrant charged Gass, 77, with sexual copulation of a child under 10 years of age and two counts of a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14. Gass was later found Saturday sitting in the back of a vehicle on Fawn Ridge Lane and taken into custody without incident, police said. Gass was taken to Norwalk police headquarters, where he was charged with extradition arrest without a warrant. His bond was set at $2.35 million. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 22 in Stamford, police said.
