MIDDLETOWN, CT — A family of seven was displaced from their home and three of their dogs were killed in a fire early Saturday morning in Middletown, according to the Middletown Press. Crews responded to the 400 block of Higby Road around 4:30 a.m. on June 12. "First arriving units called a working fire and stretched a 2.5" hand line to knock down the bulk of the fire," officials wrote in a post on the Westfield Fire Department's Facebook page. "All units remained on scene for hours with extensive overhaul. We would like to thank our mutual aid departments for their assistance. City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073 South Fire District Firefighters IAFF Local 3918 Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company Cromwell Fire Department East Berlin Volunteer Fire Company, Inc." The family of seven, five adults and two children, made it out of the home safely but three of the family's five dogs died in the fire, the Middletown Press reported. The home was destroyed in the fire. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family, according to officials. The two children attend Moody Elementary School, where the PTA is holding a drive to assist the family, according to the Westfield Fire Department. The collection will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15 at Moody Elementary School, 300 Country Club Road.
