Police, Tech And A Samaritan Help Lost Morristown Woman Get Home

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown police had a challenging situation on their hands when they found an elderly woman lost in translation. Then they remembered somebody in town who spoke her language. A good samaritan came across an elderly woman in distress Tuesday morning on South Street. They brought her to the police station, but officers realized she didn't speak English. Police determined through a translation app that the woman only knew Turkish. Officer Brendan Murphy realized the family who operated Exxon on Mt. Kemble Avenue hailed from Turkey. Zekeriya Yilmaz immediately offered help any way he could, according to the Morristown Department of Public Safety. Through Yilmaz's translation, they determined the women went for a morning walk and got lost. Police found her daughter and returned the woman home. "This is just a great example of how much we rely on the goodwill and support of this community to be able to keep everyone safe," the department wrote on Facebook. "Public safety is truly a collaborative effort and we wanted to make sure that the actions of Mr. Yilmaz were recognized as we very much appreciated his assistance." Thanks for reading.
