JERSEY CITY, NJ — An off-duty Jersey City police officer was beaten unconscious Sunday morning by a group of about 10 men. The 42-year-old officer was found injured on Grove Street and Newark Avenue just before 3:30 a.m. City officials said that the officer was bleeding from his head and face. According to officials, the man was beaten unconscious by a group of 10 people who yelled racial epithets at him. The man was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma, was treated and released. The incident is still under investigation and is being investigated as a potential bias incident.
