NEW JERSEY — A man from Bayonne died after being shot by police last week, during a shooting in the area, according to The Attorney General's Office.
Lee Waskiewicz, 47, lived in the address where the shooting happened, on the first block of West 1st Street.
Police was called to the area at around 6:30 a.m. June 7, after a report of a domestic disturbance.
Not long after officers arrived, they saw Waskiewicz in a stairwell. He retreated up the stairs and came back armed with a knife, according to the prosecutor's office.
During this second interaction, two officers from the Bayonne Police Department, Timothy Ballance Jr. and Officer Edward Taveras, fired at Waskiewicz, according to officials.
Officers provided medical help until emergency medical personnel arrived and took Waskiewicz to Bayonne Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:43 a.m., officials also said.
