Typical right-wing lies: The "My Pronoun" poster has been repeatedly posting a wrongly attributed quote to Thomas Jefferson, "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." No better source than Monticello.org calls this attribution "Spurious" and says it's first appearance in print was 1989!!! Daniel Patrick Moynihan really did say, "everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts." This is the tragedy of today's Republican party and right wingers in general: they can only win people over through their use of lies, distortions, false accusations, made-up history, and fake news. Here's a fact undisputed by any reputable source: Donald Trump has never won an election. He only won the antiquated Electoral College in 2016. Last year, he was resoundly fired by the American people. The idiocy of the fake 2nd Amendment quote above is that it makes absolutely no sense in the 21st Century. Taking up arms against the United States Government is called treason. Go ahead and take up your AK-47 when they come for you and see what happens. You'll swiftly be put down, arrested, tried, convicted, and imprisoned. These kind of fake quotes attributed to founding fathers are necessary to gun nuts because history actually shows that the concept of the 2nd Amendment meaning an unfettered right to bear arms only evolved in the 20th Century. Strict constructionism does not support absolute gun-owning freedoms. The First Amendment is first for a reason, it is the most important. There are no exceptions to the First Amendment written in the Constitution. Yet courts and Congress have carved out exceptions to an absolute right to free speech and the other freedoms of the First. If such exceptions can be made to an Amendment far more crucial to this country then why do gun activists think they're so special?
