Description

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A man broke into family members' home early Tuesday morning and told dispatchers he had a bomb, according to police. Officers responded to the 1400 block of Raven Drive around 3:30 a.m. after a resident called 911 and said a relative who does not live there had broken in and appeared to have an explosive device. Police said the intruder took the phone and told dispatch he had taken his family members hostage and had a bomb. Officers arrived and began negotiating with the intruder, police said, and the family members were able to escape the home. The intruder, identified only as a 43-year-old man, was taken into custody and brought to an area hospital for a mental crisis evaluation, said police. His name has not been released. Police told Patch the reported bomb was not, in fact, explosive and was inert. Bolingbrook police worked with the DuPage County Bomb Squad, police said.
