CHP To Host 'Start Smart' Class For Solano Teen Drivers, Parents

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol Solano Area invites new teen drivers and their parents to attend an upcoming "Start Smart" class to be held online. The class, set to take place 6 p.m- 8 p.m. Friday, June 25, is a review of the rules of the road for parents and provides important information to teens who are about to, or have recently, received their driver's license or permit. Some video clips and related movies are shown to inform parents and their teens of the restrictions on young drivers. "Statistics show that young drivers who have recently received their driver's license are five times more likely to be involved in an accident than more seasoned, experienced drivers," CHP Officer David Harvey said. "Traffic collisions continue to be the leading cause of death for young people, age 15-20." To sign up for the June 25 Start Smart class, call the Solano Area CHP Office at 707-428-2100. There is no cost to participate, as the program is supported by a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety Administration through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
