CARTERSVILLE, GA — Here are three things you should know about the Cartersville City Schools Board of Education meeting that took place Monday night: The board approved a 2022 fiscal year budget of just more than $125.7 million. The budget is $3.69 million less than first proposed in May but more than double last year's budget because of planned construction, according to The Daily Tribune-News. A contractor was chosen for one of those projects. The board chose Parrish Construction Group of Alpharetta for Cartersville High School's Phase II construction project, valued at $18.7 million. Parrish's website shows experience with numerous schools and public buildings. The district's top students and latest retirees were honored. Stellar student performers recognized include Ian Kamau, Literary GHSA Literary State Winner, oral interpretation humorous; and Georgia Scholars Allison Archer, Bill Archer, Kevin Barnhart, Margaret Gaines, Juliana Hartley, Paul Hassler, Chloe Satterfield, Micole Sy and Alice Terry. The district's latest retirees include Carilyn Hawkins, 41 years; Laura Huth, 37 years; Elizabeth Hensley, 35 years; Debra Malone, 33 years; Julie Ford, 31 years; Brad Burel, Jeri-Lyn Tyson Flowers, Molly Gann, Jennifer Graves, Rene Roberts and Mark Theiler, 30 years; Margaret Zimmer, 29 years; Lisa Flournoy, 27 years; Karen Carp, 24 years; Carol Apple, 20 years; Linda Kirkland, 14 years; and Lenora Barnett and Kaye White, 11 years.
