Vesicularia montagnei is a species of moss. It is used in planted aquariums as an ornamental underwater plant, commonly referred to as Christmas Moss.
Christmas Moss and Java Moss grow very similar. Christmas Moss has more of a branching behavior, and can climb tank walls. It also can grow in cooler water than Java. Neither can be kept outside over winter. 40 degrees is the lowest temperature they can be exposed to safely. They can survive brief periods of colder temps. Both grow exceedingly fast and are great nutrient exporters. I've only had Christmas Moss for a short time so I don't have a lot of it.
Most moss will have Ramshorn snails, Bladder snails, and/or Rabbit snails. They're great at eating algae off tank walls as well as algae that accumulate on the leaves of plants. I haven't seen them eat plants. Ramshorn's are also a great food for carnivores and amphibians.
Christmas Moss is rare so I am offering small portions that way as many people as possible can have some. I have a lot of Java Moss. Just give me an offer please.
Pickup only in Batavia.
