Millennium Health is hiring Lab Specimen Processors!! The Lab Specimen Processor I is responsible for the pre-analytical process in the laboratory which includes specimen receiving, sorting, specimen bag opening, lab support, test data entry, aliquoting, centrifugation, batching and racking and patient/medication data entry. This is a multi-faceted position and requires great flexibility, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following are intended to be examples of the accountabilities for which the person in this position is responsible. This position description is not intended to be complete or all-inclusive and does not preclude management from assigning additional or other related functions for which the individual has demonstrated competency through performance. The Laboratory Specimen Processor I is responsible for all aspects of the pre-analytical process in the laboratory with regards to urine drug testing (UDT) and oral fluid testing (OFT) processing which include the following: Specimen receiving, sorting and specimen bag opening. Initial data entry of tests ordered into computer based laboratory information system as requested by practices/accounts. Ensure correct labels are affixed to requisitions, demographic cover sheet, test tubes (when applicable) and specimen device. Validate requisitions against specimens prior to scanning and entering practice information and tests to ensure that the ID numbers and Patient Information match. Aliquot, centrifuge, batch and rack specimens in preparation for testing. Ensure that all specimens are moved throughout laboratory in a safe, efficient manner. Must be knowledgeable and aware of cross-contamination potentials and bring occurrences to Supervisor’s attention immediately for correction. Responsible for accurately distinguishing colors and smells in specimens. Accession specimen and forward to Specimen Resolution for verification and documentation. Ability to work in multiple cells, with the ability to transition between tasks within the cells. Ensure all work cells and lab areas are fully stocked with the proper supplies, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Clean and maintain the laboratory and all equipment. Manage the waste produced by the pre-analytical processes as well as keep the lab free of debris and trash at all times. Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA laws and ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrates understanding of company’s safety practices. Demonstrates awareness of safety issues and demonstrates consistent work practices at all times. Performs all responsibilities in accordance with company policies, SOPs, regulatory standards and accrediting agencies, including the proper wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. May have Wet Specimen Processing (WSP) duties. May have Workers compensation account duties. Accurately enters patient information from requisition forms and paperwork received from practices. Accurately process patient data, including medications and insurance information. Responsible for validating practice codes, specimen IDs and patient identification information on requisition forms and additional paperwork against Millennium Laboratory Information System (MLIS). Demonstrates flexibility to changing processes and tasks. Identifies discrepancies and brings occurrences to designated leaderships’ attention immediately for correction and/or verification. Other duties as assigned.
