SUMMARY: Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned buildings and grounds through a variety of routine custodial duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the position include but are not limited to the following: Work from regular cleaning schedule, clipboard, work requests, or verbal instructions. Sweep and/or vacuum, mop, wash, dust and/or polish woodwork, windows, walls, sinks, toilets, or other furniture or fixtures as assigned; maintain restrooms in good order; remove trash and other items to be trashed. Maintain area outside buildings as assigned including shoveling snow, snow-blowing, snow removal and spreading sand/salt as needed. Remove weeds and debris/leaves, using a blower or rake to clean sidewalks. Answer calls to perform emergency clean-ups. Respond to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, water damage, etc. to ensure adequate safety conditions. Use of heavy equipment is necessary for some functions. Follow all safety rules and practices. Perform set-ups of chairs, tables, equipment, etc. for routine meetings, classes, or programs. Clean area after meeting, classes or programs. Maintain order and neatness in work areas and closets. Maintain adequate building cleaning supplies and equipment; detect and report defective equipment or other questionable matters to appropriate supervisor. Custodians are considered essential personnel, and are required to report to work in the event of inclement weather or emergencies. Perform other similar duties as required or requested. QUALIFICATIONS: A High School diploma or GED, with prior experience preferred. A knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies and equipment is necessary. The ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions as noted on work orders and clipboards. The ability to lift and move object weighing up to 50 pounds. Custodians are considered essential personnel, in the event of inclement weather or an emergency, the individual filling this position will be required to report to work.
