The Art Of The Terrible Deal Trump bought the Plaza Hotel in New York for $407.5 million in 1988. He invested tens of millions in updates and restoration and then sold it for $325 million in 1995, a loss of $82.5 million dollars in just 7 years. He bought the New Jersey Generals of the USFL for $9 million in 1983. His badgering of the other owners to switch from the successful spring football season to go head to head with the NFL in a fall season drove the entire league into bankruptcy by 1986. Another $9 million lost. Trump bought the Eastern Air Lines Shuttle for $365 million in 1989 and renamed it the Trump Shuttle. The air line lost $128 million in its first 18 months under Trump. It went into bankruptcy in just 3 years and was sold. Trump lost $120 million. Trump paid $600 million for the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in 1988. It opened in 1990. It filed for bankruptcy in 1991. These are just a few of the total losses Trump has taken on business deals. Almost every venture he has been involved in has resulted in a substantial loss. The question is: Where is the money coming from for these deals? Many say it's the laundering of Russian drug money. The Manhattan DA has Trump's financial records and there is talk of a RICO filing which is racketeering, a charge that would be appropriate for money laundering
