Other

Description
A pen and paper hike at Lakeshore State Park! Let’s practice reading the landscape and explore the creative tensions at play with poets and writers including Walt Whitman, Lorine Niedecker, Harryette Mullen, and Yoko Ono. After sharing these writers aloud, we’ll walk the perimeter of Lakeshore State Park with pencil and paper in hand, allowing language to emerge with the rhythm of walking. This program concludes with a chance to discuss our own notes and observations in an intimate, conversational setting. With special guest Moheb Soliman, poet and author of HOMES (Coffee House Press, 2021). Chuck Stebelton is author most recently of An Apostle Island (Oxeye Press, 2021). His previous poetry collections include The Platformist (Cultural Society, 2012) and Circulation Flowers (Tougher Disguises, 2005). He served as Literary Program Director at Woodland Pattern Book Center from 2005 to 2017. As a poet and Wisconsin Master Naturalist volunteer he has offered writing workshops and interpretive hikes for conservancy groups and non-profit organizations including Milwaukee Public Library, Woodland Pattern Book Center, Friends of Lorine Niedecker, and the Lynden Sculpture Garden. He has held residencies at Lynden Sculpture Garden in 2011, 2014, and from 2018 to 2021 ongoing.
