Addressing Domestic Extremism Through Conflict Early Warning with Madhawa "Mads" Palihapitiya This presentation focuses on the work of the Conflict Early Warning Analytics & Policy Project (CEWAP) that has been analyzing events data for conflict early warning and early response (CEWER) to identify ways to systematically address both operational as well as structural early warning and early response needs for addressing violent domestic extremism and its underlying political belief system in the USA. Madhawa "Mads" Palihapitiya heads the research and evaluation unit of the Massachusetts Office of Public Collaboration (MOPC) at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies. He has twenty years of experience in the conflict resolution field, with significant work in the areas of conflict early warning, mediation, research, and program evaluation. Mads is currently directing The Conflict Early Warning Analytics & Policy Project (CEWAP) that is investigate the incidents of political violence that have emerged in cities such as Portland and Washington DC, which have been subject to elevated levels of violence during the pre-election, election, and post-election period from the spring of 2020 to date.
