This empowering weekend workshop brings girls together to discuss the unique challenges they face, in a setting that's safe, social and FUN! Growing up can be hard! Girls especially face a variety of challenges, from their changing bodies and moods to their changing social dynamics and stress levels. Facilitators Kim Palmiotto, LCPC, Psy.D., and Erin Helms, OTD have developed an engaging weekend workshop designed just for girls entering grades 6-8. Basic InformationDates: Saturday & Sunday, Auguat 21-22, 2021 Times: 10:00am-4:00pm both days Cost: $300 for the full weekend, to include all materials and activities (sibling discount is available - use promo code SIBLINGRATE) What to Bring: Bag lunch & a water bottle Registration Deadline: August 6th, although we expect to sell out much sooner! Workshop TopicsKim and Erin have created a weekend schedule packed with hands-on activities and engaging conversations on the following topics: Nutrition and Wellness - healthy eating, mindful eating, water intake, sleep, daily routinesHygiene and “Girl Stuff” - menstruation, skincare, using deodorant, managing body hairBody Image and Confidence - influence of social media, tools to increase self-confidenceRelationships and Friendships - understanding relational aggression, building communication skills, strengthening friendshipsYour Brain and the Mind-Body Connection - physical changes in the brain and the link between brain, body development and emotions and feelings(Note to parents: sensitive topics will be addressed in an age-appropriate manner. We will discuss issues related to self-care, puberty, and the human body, including personal hygiene, menstruation and the use of tampons or pads, and shaving.) About the Facilitators:Kim Palmiotto, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Educational Psychologist, joined Parker Place in March 2020, offering counseling for kids, teens, parents and families. She also works part time in Anne Arundel County Public Schools as a school psychologist, and is a mom of four girls. Originally from California, Kim began her career as an art therapist and transitioned to school-based therapy in 1997. Her approach to counseling focuses on positive psychology, as well as the connection between children’s growing brains and bodies and how it impacts their behavior and learning. Kim is an avid writer with multiple published books, and loves reading, creating art, practicing mindfulness, and doing anything outside in the sun! Erin Helms, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, currently works as a staff occupational therapist at a practice in Towson. She previously completed her doctoral capstone project at Parker Place, where she developed programs and resources for kids and families seeking to develop healthier lifestyles. Among her most popular offerings were her one-on-one sessions with teenagers, helping them to set goals and develop independent skills in the areas of health and wellness, time management, organization, and lowering stress. Erin’s work experience has spanned a variety of settings, including outpatient pediatrics, outpatient neurorehabilitation, adult mental health, and more. She loves spending her free time running, hiking, cooking, and being with family and friends.
