Description
Free Range Dairy at the Boulder Bandshell presents Colorado BrazilFest: Brazilian Jazz, Choro and Bossa Nova Night. Arts for All! Boulder Library Foundation and PLAY Boulder Foundation are proud to present accessible tickets to patrons. Arts in the Park was created to reactivate the City’s local arts and culture organizations, and Boulder’s Civic Area, after the devastating effects of COVID-19 on the performing arts community. If you have the means, we encourage you to purchase tickets. We know that the challenges presented by the health pandemic were not limited to just the arts community. To ensure that this year’s inaugural program is accessible to all, the Boulder Library Foundation and PLAY Boulder Foundation are proud to offer FREE tickets to Boulder community members who are experiencing financial hardship. 25 tickets are available per performance, minimum of 1, maximum of 4 tickets per household per performance. The Dexter Payne Quintet blends five distinct quintessential elements. These friends, far from a convenient or accidental jazz date, are more like a secret alchemical convocation nurtured over the last 10 years. The music is animated, driving, breath-taking and humorous. Virtuosity and joie de vie combine with collective subtlety and telepathic familiarity to make every uplifting performance a surprise. The Quintet plays Brazilian choro jazz, a tradition with roots in the 19th century, which inspired and influenced the birth of samba and bossa nova. Still very much alive in Brazil today, choro has a creative and evolving northern outpost in DPQ. Band: Dexter Payne (Clarinet), Bill Kopper (6 & 7 string guitar), Raoul Rossiter (Drums & percussion), Dave Willey (Accordion), and Victor Mestas (Piano) Michele Castro hails originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As vocalist and guitarist, she began to play internationally when invited to perform two tours of Germany with a Choro/Samba band as lead singer. Michele is proud to say she grew up in the Rocinha favela where she draws much of her musical inspiration and appreciation. While she draws inspiration from a number of artists, Elis Regina and Rosa Passos have influenced her work the most. Her vocal repertoire includes Samba, Bossa Nova, Brazilian Pop & Rock, MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), Choro and Forró. She also plays a variety of Brazilian percussion instruments. Michele loves exploring the Colorado music scene and sharing her culture and music with a new public. Band: Victor Mestas (Piano), Raoul Rossiter (drums, percussion), Ian Brighton (woodwinds), Carl Dixon (Percussion) Since 1974, the Boulder Library Foundation has been enriching the Boulder Public Library experience by providing funding for literacy, cultural, and creative programs, not covered by the City of Boulder’s budget. Our Library is the cornerstone of our community. And programs are the cornerstone of our Library. By funding programs like BLDG 61 Makerspace, Lego Story Club, and Computer Science Education Week, the Boulder Library Foundation is working to ensure our Library’s remarkable work continues far into the future.
