Saturday free jazz and film social in San Francisco Chinatown Gerald Bryant’s Miles Ahead Ensemble began in 1987 in Queens, New York. Now the band is a local favorite, playing regularly in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Filmmaker Rick Quan's "Dancing Through Life, the Dorothy Toy Story" is the featured film. Dorothy Toy is a legend in the dance world and a pioneer for Asian Americans in entertainment. Together with her dance partner, Paul Wing, they were the first Asian Americans to enter the American tap dance scene. Clarion Performing Arts Center provides education and live performance opportunities by fusing music, poetry, theater and visual art as one organic artistic experience for individuals and communities.
