Learn to Turn a Lamp on the Lathe You will learn: Material prep Lathe use safety How pieces of wood are used in bulk or glued up to be turned on the lathe How to set up your project on the lathe. Best turning speeds and practices. Tools to use for the different aspects of the turn and how to keep them properly maintained. Set up and turn a lamp body. Roughing to finish. How to add the hardware to have a working lamp. Please be sure to have an idea of what you'd like your lamp to look like. Simple is best for beginners! This class will run in two parts. 9:00am-11:00am - Cutting & gluing up project.11:00am-1:00pm - 2 hour lunch break to allow glue to dry.1:00pm-3:00pm - Lathe set up, tools & wood turning. Woodshop Safety is a prerequisite for this class. Any jewelry on the hands and wrist must be removed and that no loose clothing is worn. Closed-toed shoes are required. Safety goggles will be provided. If you wear prescription glasses, you may want to bring your own eye protection. Hearing protection is optional, bring your own if desired. Guests are asked to be on time for events. If the safety briefing is missed, the guest will not be able to join the class and no refunds will be given. Unvaccinated guests are asked to wear a mask over their nose and mouth while indoors at MakerSpace Charlotte as directed by the CDC.
