W.C. Spratt Inc. seeks an experienced Tractor-Lowboy Truck Driver to move our heavy equipment to and from jobsites. Driver must have Class “A” Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials Endorsement (X) or (H) and Tanker Endorsement (N) to ensure all our equipment and fuel/water trucks can be moved and recovered to and from jobsites. Operational area is within 50 air mile radius of 491 Central Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia, not crossing state lines. This position provides the opportunity for limited on the job training. This is not an entry level position. We need an experienced lowboy driver with a strong work ethic and ability for independent operation. The position requires tractor-trailer lowboy driving as well as work inside the equipment shop, outside in the equipment yard, and on construction jobsites in all type of weather. The position reports to the Equipment Manager and is a key operational position. The ideal candidate is energetic, situationally aware, safety oriented, and CDL knowledgeable and qualified. A minimum of 2 years tractor-lowboy experience hauling heavy equipment or performing lowboy recovery operations is required. Candidates should have extensive experience in safe loading, tie-down, and movement of equipment on lowboy trailers. They should have extensive knowledge of Federal and State DOT regulations and restrictions on tractor-lowboy equipment operations, including move/route planning, and permitting for normal and oversized loads. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform safe and legal lowboy trailer loading, tie-down cargo/load securement, transportation, and unloading for all company fleet heavy equipment and truck systems. • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with company requirements. • Must be able to work independently and effectively in a team environment • Must communicate well with others and have accurate professional administrative skills for inspection and time sheet record keeping. • Ensure proper placarding and flagging when required for moves. • Ensure assigned lowboy tractor trailer is properly maintained and safe to operate. • Safely and professionally operate all company vehicles and equipment on the road or at jobsites. • Follow all federal, state, and company safety rules and regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: • Have and maintain a Class A CDL with X or H and N endorsements. • 2 years plus experience in heavy equipment and truck transport. • Must have a clean driving record. • Ability to operate all fleet standard and automatic trucks. • Must be able to physically lift and carry tie-down chains and binders. Max lift 50 lbs. • Must be able to climb on, off, and under various pieces of equipment, and physically access all parts of equipment to perform job tie-down requirements, using steps and ladders. • Truck automotive and heavy equipment mechanical skills are desired. • Must be able to operate and load all equipment for transport in a safe professional manner. • Must be experienced with oversize/overweight load permitting. • Must be familiar with road and bridge restrictions and how to obtain current information to determine best safe legal equipment transport routes. • Must pass mandatory drug screening. • Must pass all access requirements for military and federal jobsites. • Veteran preference will be considered.
