Description
WAKEFIELD, MA — The Board of Health and Town Council voted Monday night to end the state of emergency brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, ceasing the emergency declaration made 456 days ago.
The Massachusetts state of emergency also ended as of 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
"Now therefore, the Town Council of Wakefield, Massachusetts, hereby declares that as of Monday, May 16, 2020 a state of emergency exists in the Town of Wakefield. This declaration of emergency shall remain in effect until further notice is given, pursuant to a vote by the Town Council, that the state of emergency no longer exists."
That's what the town declaration read back when there were fewer than 200 confirmed cases in Massachusetts. The latest state data shows more than 2,000 confirmed cases in Wakefield.
