Description

BEVERLY, MA — Residents in the area east of Montserrat Station in Beverly may have to deal with some disruption this week as National Grid crews work on the transmission lines associated with the commuter rail. The work will run up to 24 hours a day through Wednesday from Essex Road to Kelleher Road. The work is to upgrade the signal system for the Rockport line as part of Positive Train Control — a federally required safety control system that reduces speeds when needed and helps to avoid collisions. Crews will be removing poles and a signal house, fixing cable, and then restoring the poles and signal house in the MBTA right of way. Lights, vibrations and moderate noise can be expected in the area from the equipment required to do this work.
