PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Even New York City's wildlife know which bagels fit the bill. A mother duck and her ducklings were spotted making the treacherous journey across Brooklyn's Fifth Avenue on Monday afternoon apparently with one stop in mind — Bagel World. The mama bird, her eight babies in tow, visited the bagel shop after multiple people helped stop traffic so she could safely make it across the busy corridor, according to Doug Gordon, who took video of the "Make Way For Ducklings" moment. "No word on what they ordered," Gordon wrote. A real-life "Make Way For Ducklings" scene just unfolded in Brooklyn with this mama duck and her babies trying to cross 5th Ave. Multiple people helped stop traffic to get them safely across the street. The duck family left the shop after just a few minutes, lured to the opposite curb with bread crumbs by Bagel World employees, Gordon said. After a few minutes the ducks came out and one of the Bagel World employees helped lure them to the opposite curb with some bread crumbs. They are on their way up 4th Street, hopefully to Prospect Park. pic.twitter.com/oZ0nMYY5Zv— Doug Gordon (@BrooklynSpoke) June 14, 2021 Gordon last spotted the ducks heading up Fourth Street toward Prospect Park. He later discovered that a man accompanied the family all the way to the park and watched them walk into the woods, according to his Tweets. "Happy ending!" he wrote. Prospect Park is about four blocks from the Fifth Avenue intersection. UPDATE: The ducks made it to Prospect Park! Out for a walk and I overheard someone talking about the ducks. I stopped to ask about them. He accompanied them all the way up to the park and they went into the woods. Happy ending!— Doug Gordon (@BrooklynSpoke) June 14, 2021 The encounter is hardly the first time the quackarazzi have spotted birds journeying outside their home in New York City's parks. Just last month, a mother and her ducklings were chaperoned back to Central Park with the help of the NYPD after they ventured onto the streets of the Upper East Side.
