REDMOND, WA — With many of the customary July 4 fireworks displays on hold for another year in Western Washington, Redmond officials are reminding residents that personal fireworks are illegal within city limits. Like many neighboring cities, it is illegal to own, sell or use consumer fireworks in Redmond. Those who break the law can be charged with a misdemeanor and face a fine. City officials ask those who hear illegal fireworks and wish to report them to contact the 24/7 non-emergency line at 425-556-2500. Calling 911 should be reserved for fireworks-related injuries, fires, directly seeing someone using "dangerous or banned fireworks," and suspicious devices, officials said. Outside of city limits, fireworks are allowed within Fire District 34 for most of the day on July 4. Although the Metropolitan King County Council passed a fireworks ban for unincorporated areas earlier in April, the restrictions will not take effect until next year. (King County Fire District 34) Here are the rules for residents living in Fire District 34 (unincorporated King County): Fireworks may be discharged only on July 4 from 9 a.m. to midnight.Fireworks sales are legal beginning at noon on June 28 until 11 p.m. and then daily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. through July 4. No sales can occur after July 4.To purchase fireworks you must be at least 16 years of age with picture identification.
