BETHEL, CT — Greenwood Avenue was reopened Sunday after a sinkhole had appeared there last week. The hole shut down Metro North service through the railroad crossing.
Metro-North had been providing interim bus service between Danbury and Redding as repairs were made to the track
emergency repairs were made to the track, and motorists were detoured around the shutdown section of Greenwood Avenue between Library Place and Blackman Avenue.
The sinkhole was discovered directly beneath the tracks in the eastbound lane of the grade crossing, according to town officials. Greenwood Avenue was shut down Thursday at the downtown railroad crossing for emergency track and grade crossing repairs.
Officials predicted service would be restored Monday, but crews were ahead of schedule. On Facebook, the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company announced that the road had reopened at 6:15 p.m.
