Description
BURKE, VA — Wiring to an attic fan started an electrical fire that caused about $70,000 in damage to a Burke townhouse Saturday night, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue department officials announced.
No one was home at the time of the fire, which started at 7:44 p.m. on Saturday in the 9500 block of Ashbridge Court. A neighbor noticed fire coming from the attic vent of the townhouse and called 911. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof the two-story townhouse and no one was injured, officials said.
Two residents were displaced because of the fire, and both declined assistance from the Red Cross. Fire officials said that smoke detectors did not sound prior to the fire starting because of the location of the fire.
Investigators determined the fire to be accidental and determined that the wiring to the fan in the attic caused the electrical event.
