JOLIET, IL — A Will County judge has set bail at $100,000 for Christian Beattie, a 30-year-old Joliet man who police say attacked his girlfriend last weekend and began breaking objects inside his residence in the 3000 block of Heritage Drive. Joliet police also say Beattie had a stolen gun with him at the time, even though he is a convicted felon. In total, Joliet police arrested on nine charges: Unlawful use of a weapon by a felonAggravated unlawful use of a weaponPossession of a stolen gunUnlawful possession of ammunitionNo FOID Domestic batteryObstructing a peace officerResisting a peace officerCriminal property damage Shortly before 4 a.m., Joliet squad cars were sent to Beattie's house in the 3000 block of Heritage Drive for a domestic disturbance. Police say Beattie attacked his girlfriend in the neighborhood behind Jefferson Street near Essington Road. "Further investigation indicated that Beattie was intoxicated and began breaking items inside of the residence," police reported. "The victim attempted to intervene at which time Beattie struck her in face numerous times." According to police: wWhen officers tried to interview Beattie to hear his version of events, he tried running toward a parked car. Eventually, officers caught up to Beattie and placed him into custody following a brief struggle. Police recovered a loaded gun from Beattie at the time of his arrest, police said. "Officers determined that the handgun had previously been reported stolen," Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English indicated.
