LAKE COUNTY, IL — Gurnee police required help from a neighboring law enforcement agency to break up a big fight over the weekend at a local theme park. According to the department, shortly before 7 p.m., officers responded to Six Flags Great America on Sunday to find a large group of people actively attacking one another. To dissolve the fight, Gurnee police requested assistance. Lake County deputies responded. Additional officers remained at the park for the rest of the evening as a precautionary measure, Gurnee police said. Detectives said they are continuing their investigation into what caused the disturbance. No injuries were reported, and officers took several people into custody. In a statement, Chief Brian Smith said he is grateful for the quick response from his officers and county deputies. "Six Flags is a great attraction within our community, and families should feel safe when visiting Gurnee and the surrounding amenities. Our partnership with Six Flags allows us to assign Gurnee police officers to the park every day as an added service to the community," Smith said. "During this incident, it was our priority to secure the area and make it a safe environment for all visitors and employees. I am thankful for the rapid response from our officers and Lake County Deputies to de-escalate the situation and restore calm within the area." Police said the incident appears to be an isolated event and remains under investigation.
