tl/dr: bass player wants to start a heavily dub reggae influenced punk band. Inquire within.
So I want to start something that is really rooted in reggae, ala Horace Andy, King Tubby, Scientist, etc. but has a punk/no wave feel to it. Bands like PIL, The Contortions, Pop Group, early Fall. The rhythm section in my opinion could almost be a plain reggae house band, steppers delite style, giving the guitars/electronics/vocals a solid foundation to play around on. Regardless the drum and bass gotta be tight together, even when improvising! The closest comparison of what Im looking for is basically The New Age Steppers or the Slits.
I have a huge passion for both punk and reggae, and draw a lot of influence stylistically and aesthetically from both. It would be fun to fool around with some folks into similar and see what happens. I am a strong believer in improvisation to song. So even with all this stuff, whoever I end up jamming with, I am totally down to see what comes organically after we play together a few times, thats important. This is where I am coming from, and even though thats kind of what I am trying to build I have never started a band on a strict pretense like that. Sets a tone I don't care for.
I have been playing bass for 20yrs at this point, in my mid 30's. Got gear. Honestly in no big rush to play crazy shows and stuff just yet. Would like to focus on the music first and see what happens. I have a life outside of music and don't expect my fellow music folks to drop everything for this either, that doesn't mean that we cant make beautiful music! Located in the East Valley. Let me know if this is something that sounds interesting to you.
