JOB OPENING: WORSHIP MUSIC SUPPORT/KEYBOARDIST - 6-MONTH CONTRACT Central Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon (www.centralportland.org) has used Zoom to hold its worship services during the pandemic. We are seeking musical worship support as we finish our time on Zoom and transition to in-person services. For our Zoom services we are looking for 4-5 pieces of recorded music weekly that convey the joy of God’s presence in the world, with 2-3 additional pieces required seasonally. For a recording of a recent worship service, please visit www.facebook.com/CentralLutheran/live. We have not yet decided on the date of our return to in-person services in our Sanctuary. For in-person services, we will require 4-5 pieces of live music weekly. To apply, send a resume, cover letter and a recording of you performing a musical piece to . Position is open until filled. Position Duties: provide 5 pieces of music for worship weekly. ● Plan musical offerings with Worship Committee, which will identify 4-5 total pieces to be used in each weekly service. ● Zoom services: For up to 4 pieces weekly, create or find a public recording of the piece suitable for use in our service and compliant with our current copyright licenses. A collection of compliant music previously recorded by Central musicians since November is also available for use. ● Zoom services: For up to 2 pieces weekly, work with up to 10 volunteer musicians to create audio files: o Create accompaniment track for musicians to sing/play to; o Mix audio tracks, using artistic abilities to create pieces that enhance and honor our volunteer musicians; o Create audio file; o Send audio files to worship producers. ● In-Person services: To play piano, organ, or other supplemental instrument to lead congregational music and worship in an accessible, inclusive, and joyful manner. Note: It is expected the chosen candidate will use their own computer to perform technical duties. Central’s piano, organ and a computer are available for use on-site for recordings and for in-person worship. Key Skills Required ● Ability to play keyboard: piano required; organ preferred. Ability to play other instruments a plus. ● Proficiency with audio production software such as BandLab®; ability to become proficient in BandLab. Other audio programs may be used with an understanding that volunteer musicians are currently comfortable and proficient with BandLab as a Cloud-collaboration tool. ● Artistic ability to mix and produce inspiring music renditions. ● Familiarity with or ability to learn copyright laws and procedures for assuring rights to record and livestream (Central holds licenses with OneLicense.net and WorshipCast). ● Proficiency with Windows® software suite, familiarity with Google Drive products. ● Proficiency with email and file transfers. ● Familiarity with liturgical music a plus.   Schedule ● 10 - 15 hours per week, through December 2021, with potential to be extended. ● Recorded accompaniment pieces for collaboration will be due no later than one week prior to use in service. ● Congregational musicians will complete their tracks 48 hours prior to completed audio files being due, meaning mix files must be created during a 48-hour window. ● Recordings for Zoom services due Friday 11:00 PM on the week of use or earlier ● Upon return to in-person worship, the responsibilities may be re-negotiated as recording and mixing hours may be shifted to other in-person collaborative opportunities. Attendance and music offering on Sundays 9:30 AM – Noon on site will be expected. (Service begins at 10:15 AM). Special services, such as Christmas Eve, will also be expected. Staff Interactions The position reports directly to the Pastor, who will provide guidance and feedback on the music files produced and copyright procedures. In addition, the position will interact regularly with ● Office Administrator to communicate planned pieces for the weekly bulletin guide to worship; ● Worship committee to plan service music; ● Volunteer congregational musicians, to alert them to the pieces they can participate in and ensure they have sheet music; ● Volunteer Service Producers, to supply finished music for services. Compensation: $1000/month As a contract position, there are no benefits.
