Join the Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and ArtReach GW as part of "WELLderness: An Outdoor Wellness Series" Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in collaboration with ArtReach and George Washington University are bringing FREE fine arts education, therapeutic art, and mixed media art workshops to DC residents East of the River (Wards 7 & 8). Who: Priority registration is for residents East of the River (Wards 7 & 8) What you will be doing: What makes the Lotus flower special? In this workshop, you’ll learn about the cultural significance of the lotus, why there is a Lotus garden in DC and how to paint a lotus. Art supplies provided on site. When: Friday, July 9, 2021 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Check-in opens at 5:45pm. Where: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave Northeast, Washington, DC 20019. Participants will meet by the entrance trail at the parking lot. Getting There: By car, there is a large visitors parking lot at the park entrance on Anacostia Ave and abundant street parking surrounding the park. By Metro, the park entrance is 1.0 mile from the Deanwood Metro Station and 1.3 miles from the Minnesota Ave Station, both on the Orange Line. By foot or bike, access the park via the Anacostia River Trail. Bring with you: We recommend you bring a water bottle, snack, bug spray, sun protection (sunscreen/block, hat, sunglasses), and/or anything else one may carry when spending time outdoors. ** If you are not fully vaccinated (at least 2+ weeks), then you must wear a mask that fully covers your nose and mouth and practice social distancing. Space is limited for social distancing. If you are not sure you can attend, please refrain from registering. There will be no on-site registration.** About ArtReach: ArtReach GW provides free, high quality fine arts education, expressive and therapeutic art classes, and advanced fine arts college preparation facilitated by George Washington University Corcoran alumni and local teaching artists to more than 200 youth and families who reside in DC Wards 7 & 8, and nearby Prince George's County, Maryland.
