Learn the intricate designs from traditional paper marbling and along with more advanced techniques.
Students will continue their learning of paper marbling and up their game with more intricate and complex design creation, marbling with metallic paints, and marbling onto colored papers. Patterns such at The Peacock, Spanish Ripple, and Birdwing will be taught among many others. Students will also learn to prep sheets, mix their own paints, and will leave the class with 20-30 unique handmade marbled papers.
This class requires having taken Intro to Paper Marbling or equivalent experience.

Mel Hewitt is a book artist working her way towards becoming proficient in all aspects of the book arts. Her skills currently lie in traditional and contemporary binding structures and finishing techniques, paper marbling, paste papers, and incorporating letter press, screen printing, and relief printing into her pieces. Mel’s work ranges from utilitarian one-of-a-kind journals to sculptural artist books. She is a board member of Spokane Print and Publishing Center where she also teaches classes on the book arts, and serves on the board for the Northwest Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers.
