We’re past the point of no return. The only question remaining: what will happen? We are living on borrowed time as the Earth prepares to shed her skin and rid herself of the bothersome instance that humanity has become. What was once a pristine balance of life and rebirth has become stymied and distorted beyond repair due to human intervention. In true human fashion, we have imposed our will onto what has been, and always will be. Aurora reflects on the Earth’s journey from nothingness, to birth, to recovery, and beyond. What once was cyclical may no longer be so, as we look to the northern lights in search of escape, or coalescence with the nothingness from whence we came. Aurora is a three-movement multimodal audiovisual immersive theatrical installation work designed to showcase the new and novel technology invented by PhD candidate Ethan Castro. The audio devices that the audio-visual immersive theatrical installation is designed to exhibit the full-frequency capabilities of tactile-resonant devices. Climate experts from the University of California, Riverside suggest implementing a carbon tax as the most effective method of combating climate change at this moment. For more information on carbon taxes, see carbontax.org. The events projected in this performance are not fabricated by our artists. Climate change researchers have warned for decades that humanity’s descent is imminent, and a 2019 paper published by the National Centre for Climate Restoration in Melbourne, Australia details a likely sequence of events from 2020-2050 should humans not create and enact effective climate-related policy change now. Carbon taxing is not a new concept and has had a difficult road in Congress. In 2018, bipartisan legislation was introduced in Congress, but the political party divide in American politics has resulted in a steep decline in support for climate legislation. Right now, the largest piece of legislation in Congress is HR 2307, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. __ WARNING: If you suffer from an epileptic condition or have had seizures of any kind, this event (especially the second portion) might not be suitable for you.
