Description
I think there's a lot of resistance to certain concepts based on the words that were chosen to convey the idea.
If black lives matter had been black lives matter TOO, it wouldn't have sounded as aggressive and aligned better with what the message is that the value of black lives is not being considered equally with the value of white lives. Without "too", it comes across as somewhat exclusionary.
White privilege is another poor word choice. Most people feel like they're running as fast as they can uphill through a minefield while under heavy fire from machine guns, bazookas, and mortars. Storming the cliffs of Normandy beach type of life. Black people have added issues of razor wire and 50 extra pounds in their backpack to deal with. So it's not that life is easy for all or most white people. It's that black people have a couple of additional significant obstacles that have an effect. Doesn't mean that the every black life is more difficult than every white life. Just that there are added difficulties associated with being in the minority. "Minority burden" might have been a less polarizing term than white privilege but describes the same issue.
