Selective use of the broad brush and the fine brush is just a game for children.
Broad brush: Blacks in general are murderers and thugs because crime rates say blacks commit more crimes per thousand. That white people also commit all of the same crimes is irrelevant. It's all about percentages. You can judge a group by the acts of some.
Narrow brush: Sure 99% of the slaves were owned by white people but there were some blacks and Indians that owned them too so that exonerates white people. Percentages has nothing to do with it. You can't judge a group by the acts of some.
