Registration/Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. Vacation Bible School Discipline Policy RCBC will implement redemptive discipline to train children in regard to their behavior and heart. Redemptive Discipline aims to guard against confusing the truth of the gospel with teaching that promotes behavior modification. Careful, firm and loving discipline encourages heart change rather than external compliance. Every discipline issue in the classroom represents an opportunity for students to learn the truth about God. Three Layers of Discipline Implement the five tools of discipline in three layers: Prevent, Correct and Redeem. Before a student distracts the student next to them, use all five tools to Prevent discipline issues. As negative behavior arises, Correct this behavior by using the five tools to re-direct a student. And discern a student’s readiness to Redeem negative behavior through developing a relationship with God. While prevention of discipline issues is the desired outcome, correction of behavior is often required. RCBC expects first time obedience and not multiple warnings and corrections before implementing a consequence. RCBC will use the correction procedure followed in the AWANAS program. Many of the children are in AWANA and are familiar with the program. Teachers are to follow these procedures: 5 Count - Used to quiet and bring to order to an entire group. The teacher or assistant initiates the 5 Count by holding up fingers accordingly while counting slowly to 5. At the count of 5, all students are to be quiet, and are to pay attention. Students are not to count along with the teacher/assistant who is counting to 5. 3 Count - Used when an individual student continues to misbehave after the 5 count correction or any other time. Count 1 - A warning can be given by any teacher/assistant to a student that he/she should stop misbehaving and that he/she is being watched. The student’s name it written on the board as an immediate consequence. Count 2 - The teacher or assistant takes the student out into the hallway to investigate and counsel the misbehaving student about the problem using the redemptive discipline principles. This is an opportunity for the student to correct and redeem his/her behavior. The teacher may elect to have the student miss some of the of class activities depending on the student’s response. Count 3 - The teacher/assistant escorts the student to the VBS Director. The student will not be allowed to participate in further class activities that day. Parents are notified.
