PORT CHESTER, NY — A pregnant woman was taken to the hospital after being shoved to the ground by a would-be mugger, police say. The attack happened just before 9:30 p.m on Wednesday evening. The victim was walking with her family on Westchester Avenue, when she was suddenly assaulted, according to a Port Chester Police Department spokesperson. The 32-year-old victim was treated at the hospital for what are described as minor injuries. According to police reports, the assailant grabbed his victim's handbag and attempted to steal it. Following the struggle, he is said to have fled the scene of the attack empty-handed. Using witness statements and security camera footage, investigators were able to identify a suspect. The next day, a 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the mugging gone wrong. The teenager was charged with attempted second degree robbery and referred to family court. Citing the arrested suspect's age, authorities say no other details will be released. This week's violence follows an earlier unprovoked attack in the area in which a man was randomly punched in the face, according to investigators. The Memorial Day incident occurred on Willet Avenue. A Port Chester resident told police he was walking home from a store when he was assaulted by a stranger for no apparent reason. The victim suffered facial injuries which may require surgery, police say. Detectives investigating the case were soon able to identify a suspect and make an arrest. Aykik Egas was charged with third degree assault and was later released prior to his next appearance before a judge.
