Description
FALMOUTH, MA — The Falmouth Housing Corporation complex on Main Street caught fire Thursday night.
The fire started around 7:50 a.m., at 704 Main St. on a second-floor balcony. Firefighters sent three fire engines and a ladder truck to battle the flames.
Fire officials said firefighters on the first arriving engine made "an aggressive exterior attack" on the fire, to prevent flames from spreading to the rest of the building.
All the building's residents evacuated on their own, and no injuries were reported.
Fire officials said the fire was extinguished shortly after 8 p.m. Several apartments on the second and third floors sustained water, heat, and smoke damage. Three commercial units on the first floor also sustained damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Most of the building occupants were able to return to their apartments. The Falmouth Housing Corporation provided accommodations for several residents who were displaced.
