WINCHESTER, VA — Brandon Willis Kagma, who played basketball at South Lakes High School, is wanted in connection with the 2020 fatal shooting of Wayne Lamont Starks Jr., according to news reports.
On July 7, Kagma told police that Starks had shot himself while they were making a rap video in the basement of an apartment in the 100 block of Diamond Court in Frederick County, Virginia, according to The Winchester Star. At the time of his death, Starks was a resident of Front Royal.
Following an 11-month police investigation, a Frederick County grand jury indicted Kagma Thursday on involuntary manslaughter and reckless handling of a firearm charges, the Star reported. As of Friday night, he remained a fugitive.
Born in Cameroon, Kagma moved to Reston as a young children. After graduating from South Lakes, he went on to play basketball at Northeastern University in Boston, High Point University in North Carolina, and Cal State Fullerton, according to the Star. After Kagma was passed over by the NBA draft, he told eurobasket.news on June 29, 2020, that he was planning to play basketball internationally.
