BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Starting Monday, families can participate in the summer session of The Stock Market Game, a simulated investment activity that teaches the fundamentals of personal finance and investing. The game is free and will be offered online from Monday through Aug. 20.
In the game, families invest a hypothetical $100,000 in listed stocks, bonds and mutual funds, and learn the value of the capital markets as they work together to maximize the return on their portfolios. The activity is offered to families by BCPS Parent University in partnership with First Financial Federal Credit Union, which is covering all team fees, and the Maryland Council on Economic Education.
"We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our families," Susan Hahn, program specialist and coordinator of Parent University, said. "This is a unique learning activity that teaches important lessons about economics."
"We encourage families to take advantage of this summer learning opportunity," added BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. "Everyone who participates will gain valuable knowledge about finances."
Both a tour of the game and registration directions are available online.
