Brush Fire Breaks Out Near 105 Freeway

LOS ANGELES, CA — A small brush fire broke out in South Los Angeles Friday near the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, forcing the closure of two lanes. It took firefighters about half an hour Friday afternoon to put out the blaze, but traffic remained backed up throughout the rush hour. The fire was reported at 4:13 p.m. along eastbound lanes of the Glenn Anderson Freeway at the top of the Central Avenue off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. "Though as many as five detached garages were briefly threatened, teamwork by city and county responders prevented harm to those buildings or nearby homes," said the Los Angeles Fire Department's Brian Humphrey. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation, Humphrey said. The numbers 3 and 4 eastbound lanes of the Glenn Anderson Freeway were shut down between the Harbor (110) Freeway and Central Avenue to accommodate firefighting equipment, the CHP said.
