Looking to adopt a small puppy

I am looking to adopt a small puppy, no more than 6 months old, for my fiance's birthday. He works remotely, as an app developer, and would be able to give the dog plenty of love. The puppy would be an apartment dog for now, but would be moving to south jersey next year, where he or she would have plenty of space to run around in. During times that he's not available, his mother who is retired, would come over to keep the puppy company.
