Description
A professional learning opportunity for Wisconsin K-6 educators and math leaders in partnership with Student Achievement Partners. The Math Institute is excited to partner with Student Achievement Partners on this professional learning opportunity for K-6 Wisconsin educators and math leaders. Addressing student understanding of mathematics after two years of lost instructional time is a critical need. In this full day session you will experience and understand formative assessment practices that give meaningful information to teachers and support students’ mathematical identity. We will examine the March 2021 released What Works Clearinghouse: Assisting Students Struggling with Mathematics: Intervention in the Elementary Grades and consider where students are in their mathematical understanding. Connections among the research-based mathematics interventions and recommendations to equitable math practices found in the guide will be examined. Throughout the session participants will engage with ideas to support students’ social, emotional and academic development and strengthen coherence between what students know and how to best support their mathematical understanding moving forward. Goals/Outcomes: Increased understanding of the formative assessment practices and processes for determining where students are and what they need moving forward while supporting their social and emotional needsIncreased access to quality resources for assessing, understanding and planning equitable math instruction Increased collaboration on the teaching and learning inquiry cycle to share with your school, or district and use in your own teachingUnderstanding and Acting on Student Needs Grade Level: K-6 Content Focus: Content & Instruction Workshop Date: Thursday, October 14, 2021 Workshop Times: 9:00am – 3:00pm Location: Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin W233N2080 Ridgeview Parkway, Suite 100 Waukesha, WI 53188 Cost: $309 Includes light breakfast and lunch.
