Joy Skate Productions “Be Here! Be YOU!” -- a celebratory skating and dancing “fun-raiser” supporting the LGBTQ+ community Joy Skate Productions welcomes you to join “Be Here! Be YOU!” -- a celebratory skating and dancing “fun-raiser” supporting the LGBTQ+ community. The charity event brings together the fun of skating, gender illusion, exciting performances, great music and joy. Be Here! Be YOU! will be hosted by world and national figure skating champion, Randy Gardner, and the guest of honor will be writer/director/composer/performer Faith Soloway. The show will benefit Rehearsal for Life, and will include live performances from Boston’s premier gender illusionist Mizery McRae and drag performer/fashion model Milk. Boston veteran DJ Brian Halligan will bring the music. “We’re bringing joy to people through skating and Rehearsal for Life is a great cause,” said Elin Schran, Founder of Joy Skate Productions. “They’re helping young people with critical social and emotional skills, and we get to help them with art, openness, and entertainment on ice.” Be Here! Be YOU! will take place on an Olympic-size ice surface in the Tenley E. Albright Performance Center at The Skating Club of Boston, 750 University Ave, Norwood on Saturday, July 17 from 6-9:30 p.m. What: Be Here! Be YOU! LGBTQ+ Skating and Dancing Party and Fundraiser Where: The Skating Club of Boston, 750 University Ave, Norwood When: Saturday, July 17 at 6-9:30 p.m. 6-7 p.m - Family-Friendly Skating Session 7 p.m. - On-Ice Performance 7:30-9:30 - General Party General admission is $30, Youth (18 and under) and students with a valid ID $10. Includes parking, music, skate rental, and a skating session. Additional amenities at The Skating Club of Boston include a cash bar, cafe, and gender-neutral bathrooms. Host, Randy Gardner Randy Gardner is a World and National Champion and an Olympic Pairs Figure Skater. His illustrious life has been captured in the documentary Go Figure: The Randy Gardner Story. Randy’s journey to overcome the obstacles life has thrown at him and rise to the top of his sport is truly compelling. His speaking program inspires participants to never give up and focuses on turning negative situations into positive triumphs. Guest of Honor, Faith Soloway Faith Soloway is a writer, director, composer and performer. She wrote for all four seasons of Amazon’s groundbreaking television show Transparent, and composed all the songs for Transparent: Musicale Finale. She was the musical director at Second City in Chicago and a founding member of The Annoyance Theater, where she composed and directed many shows. Mizery McRae is one of Boston’s premier gender illusionists. Milk is an American drag performer and fashion model who came to international attention as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Rehearsal for Life (benefit charity) Rehearsal for Life’s mission is to strengthen young people’s social and emotional skills for every stage in life, through dialogue, creativity and performance. It's signature program, Urban Improv, serves over 1,100 4-8th grade students each year with workshops at five partner Boston Public Schools. Through Urban Improv, teaching artists create realistic scenes and students use their minds, bodies, and creativity to resolve conflict, experiencing the consequences of their choices firsthand. The students learn how to navigate hard conversations and situations, tackling tough topics such as racism, homophobia, bullying, grief/loss, changing homelife and more.
