Two Day Event Celebrating Juneteenth Featuring a Panel Discussion with Ambassador Andrew Young, Art Exhibit, and Jamboree
FRIDAY 6/18/21 - Juneteenth Matters! is a panel discussion and artistic expression about the importance of Juneteenth to Texans, the nation, and the world. It will include participation by Ambassador Andrew Young, representatives of Galveston’s Juneteenth Legacy Project and representatives of Barrett Station, the only registered Freedman’s town in the state of Texas. The legislative effort led by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee to establish the emancipation trail from Galveston to Houston and Juneteenth as a national holiday will also be highlighted. The Congresswoman will be recognized as the inaugural recipient of the HCCAC Cultural Trailblazer Award. Guests can also enjoy a special exhibition of the art collection of Judge Joe Stephens as well as view several Juneteenth related original works by renown presidential artist Ted Ellis.
SATURDAY 6/19/21 Juneteenth Jamboree will feature an outdoor Jamboree filled with free food, entertainment, and fun. Guests will also be able to tour the Cultural Arts Center and view the art exhibit this day as well.
