New Principal Announced For Mineola's Hampton Street School

MINEOLA, NY — Hampton Street School has a new principal. Mineola Union Free School District announced that Leigh Shaw — who has worked for the district for five years — will assume her new position on July 1. "It is an honor to join the Hampton family, a place I have admired and respected for the past five years," Shaw said. "I look forward to supporting the dedicated learners, educators, and families in continuing to achieve the Mineola mission." Hampton Street School, located at 10 Hampton St., is a public school for children in Pre-K through second grade. According to 2019-2020 school year data, Hampton Street has an enrollment of 389 students — and the student-teacher ratio is 12:1. Before accepting Hampton Street's top post, Shaw served as a virtual principal for Pre-K through second grade and an instructional leader for Pre-K through 12th grade. As an instructional leader, she was responsible for fostering professional development, coaching and supporting teachers and teacher leaders, and facilitating formal teacher observations. Prior to working for Mineola's school system, Shaw spent the majority of her career as a teacher at P.S. 334 – The Anderson School in Manhattan. Shaw holds a master's degree in childhood education from Hofstra University and an advanced degree in school leadership from Hunter College.
