McDonough: 'Unthinkable' For Children To Wear Masks

MERRICK, NY — Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R-Merrick) led the introduction of a bill that would do away with a mask mandate for children in educational settings. The mask issue for students has been controversial and contentious with several school districts across Long Island balking at Gov. Andrew Cuomo's decision to keep children's faces covered. However, the latest guidance from the state indicates children will no longer have to wear a mask outdoors. There is no change inside the classroom. McDonough's bill would cover children, who are healthy and asymptomatic, in schools and camps. "Our parents, teachers and children have faced near-insurmountable odds throughout this school year," McDonough said in a statement. "Our children are being denied basic human decency. It's unthinkable that they have to wear masks in a 90-degree classroom with no air conditioning. No reasonable person would force them to keep masks on. We must apply common sense here, unmask our children."
