For Juneteenth 2021, Taste the Diaspora Detroit in collab with Marygrove Conservancy presents View, Chew & Chat: High on the Hog Watch Party High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America is a new four-part Netflix docuseries based on the book by culinary historian, Dr. Jessica Harris. High on the Hog aims to highlight all of the considerable culturally significant contributions of African Americans to the culinary landscape of this country. Black food is American food. What better way to honor Juneteenth than by breaking bread together, in community, to watch High on the Hog's fourth episode titled "Freedom" - a culinary journey through Texas to tell the story about the importance of Juneteenth. Join us on Saturday, June 19th at 7pm at the Marygrove Conservancy _ main dining room of the Madame Cadillac Building for "View, Chew & Chat": High on the Hog Watch Party. Doors to open at 6pm and watch party will begin at 7pm with a moderated discussion to follow. A limited number of shoebox meals will be available for pre-purchase and will include foods from four local, Black owned food businesses. Each shoebox meal will include: Chicken Curry Wrap or Farmacy Veggie Wrap - Farmacy FoodMini Sweet Potato Pie - Sweet Potato SensationsDetroit Mix Popcorn - Cynt-Sational PopcornGinger Brew (non-alcoholic) - Paradise Natural Foods*Shoebox meals can be purchased for dine-in or can be purchased for pick-up only.
